A fire snake is a serpentine creature that lives in lava.1 Two rose out of a lava pool in the sealed Underforge Vaults on 30 Coldrise, 1714 PSF, and Iva called them fire snakes.2

Appearance

A fire snake bursts out of lava spraying molten rock, and hisses. It has a beak-like snout, and flames lick off its body and scorch the ground around it. Coal heats up in its presence before it touches it.2

Behavior

Fire snakes are elemental spirits of some kind, with an intelligence nearer a beast’s than a person’s. They are not flesh-and-blood creatures of this world, but they are very much alive.2 Their minds are strange to anyone who knows the creatures of the forest.2

They gnaw melted stone and eat coal several pieces at a time, and a burning barrel does not bother them.2 They are wary of strangers but slow to attack. When the party backed away, the snakes watched them and did not follow.2

History

Session 10

Rhysaene prodded the lava pool with a mage hand, and two fire snakes rose out of it.2 The party backed away and marked the pool as dangerous. Luma rolled them a barrel of coal on a drawn cart, and they ate from it happily.2

Session 11

Luma meant to note in her survey report that fire snakes like coal, and promised to make the note really big after Hazel worried that others would not be as compassionate towards them.3
