Dorian Draken's Rapier

Dorian Draken’s rapier is the sword Dorian Draken wears at his side. He claims it is a magic dancing sword that he found in the City of Ghosts.¹

Description

Appearance

It is a very beautiful, elegant rapier, finer than the dwarven hand axes.¹ Luma judged it an incredibly well-made blade, a perfect weapon, and thought that whoever made it made the smith of the hand axes look like an amateur.¹

An inscription runs along the blade in Elvish lettering, difficult to see.¹ The words are Sylvan, flowery and poetic, and read “Dance, Fletis, as a leaf upon the wind.”¹ Near the crossguard on one side, a very faint crescent moon is etched into the blade, out of the way like a maker’s mark. It is not the emblem of the Shattered Mother, nor any modern depiction of the moon.¹

Properties

Dorian says the sword soars into the air and performs feats of acrobatic combat that no human hand could, and told Luma it would not work for her.¹ Luma could not rule out a genuine enchantment, and judged that if the sword is a fake, it is worth more than an actual uncommon magic item.¹ Apart from Luma, nobody at the Dancing Sword believed it was magic, and Temerity thought Dorian was lying about it.¹

History

Dorian says he found the sword abandoned in the City of Ghosts, beyond the edge of the Silver Vale, and that he once slew a dragon with it beyond the Vale.¹ He says he is allowed to own it as a grace from the ruling council of the Synod, for his many years of heroics.¹

Session 11

At the Dancing Sword on 30 Coldrise, 1714 PSF, Dorian let Luma touch the sword but not hold it alone. She considered casting identify on it but decided it was too risky in a crowded tavern, and drew a copy to study instead.¹ Hazel read the Sylvan inscription from Luma’s copy.¹ The crescent moon reminded her of a city Hecate had described, where the moon was honored and only ghosts now dwell.¹
