Forgemasters' Tomb

The forgemasters’ tomb is a burial shaft beneath Vault 20 of the sealed Underforge Vaults under Argentum, behind a locked iron double door. A plaque at its foot reads “Here lie the forgemasters.”¹

Description

The door is a double iron door about seven feet tall, very fine dwarven work, with keyholes that are not for the four-pronged key of the Guild of Sparks.¹ Behind it, a stone stair ten feet wide spirals down around solid stone.¹ Further down the inner wall falls away, and the stair, fifteen feet wide with a railing, winds round a big, perfectly circular shaft.¹

Below the first twenty or thirty feet, alcoves in the wall hold stone sarcophagi of dwarven size and shape, each carved with a name and dates of birth and death.¹ The bottom is open ground about sixty feet across, floored with smooth tile. A statue of a handsome, very dwarven figure stands at its center, with the plaque at its base.¹ No passage leads on.¹

Dates

The latest death on the sarcophagi is 1489.¹ The dates run further back going down, about one dwarven generation to a sarcophagus, to about 400.¹ The last four sarcophagi use a different dating system entirely.¹ Neither set of dates carries a marker such as PSF.¹

History

Session 13

Luma picked the lock on the Vigil of Remembrance, 1714 PSF, reasoning that the tomb lay outside her survey anyway, and relocked the door when the party left.¹ She pointed out that the dates did not fit the vaults’ having been sealed five hundred years before.¹ Rhysaene sketched some of the markings and took a loose pebble, and Luma mapped the tomb in a second notebook, apart from her survey.¹ Hazel felt it improper to talk in the presence of the dead.¹
