Silverthorn is a settlement in the Silver Vale, a hub for hunters and trappers near the edge of woodland. Luma understood it to lie well to the north east.1 It sits about five miles from the Sisters' farm.2
Description
Silverthorn is much smaller than Crick's Bend. It is about eight buildings of people who live close together and do not farm at any scale.2 There is no general store, no inn and no tavern. People who want to get together do it at somebody’s house.2 The village sits on the river rather than the road, with a worn dirt path running south to meet it, and an old bridge about three miles north-east carries the old road over the river and out of the Vale.3 Some places in the Vale are built on the ruins of older ones, but Silverthorn is not.3 It has no church and nobody governs it. If something strange happened, the villagers would most likely send someone to Hecate.3
Its people talk to each other and are guarded with strangers, enough that a party of outsiders that size would have been a spectacle.2 They know Hazel as the little weirdo, and as the one from the farm that people say is half wild animal.2 They know to give the Sisters' farm a wide berth unless they have a reason to be there.2
History
Session 2
Hazel told the party over drinks at the Dancing Sword that she was a hunter and fur trader from near Silverthorn.1
Session 6
Hazel took the party off the road on a cross-country route that missed Silverthorn altogether and cut an hour off the walk to the Sisters' farm.2 A farmer they helped on the road told them that a man who had moved out of Crick's Bend two years earlier to farm near the town had gone missing two days before, that his wife was worried, and that nobody could find him.2
Session 7
The Sisters’ ward took hold on the night of 27 Coldrise, 1714 PSF. The dread the party had carried since coming within ten miles of Silverthorn lifted, and they noticed it only once it was gone.4 The three Light Wardens walked out of the forest toward the village on foot, their horses having run off during the fight.4
Session 8
The party came into Silverthorn from the Sisters' farm on the morning of 28 Coldrise, 1714 PSF, their first visit.3 The fog had mostly lifted, and the villagers were in decent spirits without knowing why.3 Hazel greeted Old Orf, and his owner asked whether she had seen Old Doug, since Margaret Fletcher had been looking for him for days.3 The party sent Margaret a forged Order of the Lantern letter telling her that her husband Douglas Fletcher had been found dead in the woods, which Iva delivered in disguise.3
