The Hearth Wall is the most populous district of Argentum, between the Grand Canals and the city’s outer wall, which is also called the Hearth Wall. Life here is practical and varied, and the district holds communal longhouses, artisan quarters and barracks.
Description
The wall itself is white stone, fifty feet tall, with watchtowers of seventy-five feet along its length. Building inside it is more mixed than in the Lantern Wards, in cobblestone, brick and wood, and all of it dates from after the Starfall.1 The district has plenty of dark alleys.2
The Canal Markets trade along the Grand Canals on this side of the wall, from booths and barges selling greenhouse produce, preserved meats and salvaged goods.

- The Dancing Sword, an inn and tavern just past the Swordgate bridge.32
- The Sterling Sovereign, a restaurant and inn near the Canal Markets on the south side of the district.3
- Sterling Outfitters & Expeditionary, a large shop with lower prices.4
- Silverwright Tools & Tackle, a narrow, soot-stained smithy in the north-west of the district, near Sterling Outfitters. Its one smith makes the goods and runs the shop, and they are of decent quality and a little pricier.4

The Stacks, a small bar in the southern Hearth Wall, is the meeting place of the Unbound.5 Beyond the wall, the sprawl of the Outer Works runs about three miles out.5
